Mexico: IFT Public Consultation on Certification Requirements and Certification Label Use Guidelines

On June 14, 2024, Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) announced the launch of a public consultation on the proposed changes to the "Guidelines for the Use of IFT Labels in Products, Equipment and Devices" and the "Certification Requirements for Telecommunications or Radio Products, Equipment and Devices".

Two public consultations will be conducted simultaneously to re-formulate the labeling requirements in the certification framework (IFT Certification Guidelines from December 2021 and IFT Labeling Guidelines from December 2023). This initiative aims to collect opinions from all parties, further improve and optimize the certification process, and improve market access transparency and efficiency.

Mexico: IFT Public Consultation on Certification Requirements and Guidelines for the Use of Certification Labels

Main changes
1. Modify the general features that must be followed when printing, digitizing or reproducing the IFT seal on approved telecommunications or broadcasting products, equipment, devices or devices;
2. Temporary deposit of vector files containing the IFT seal through online channels;
3. Modify the effective date of the "Guidelines for the Use of the IFT Seal in Approved Telecommunications or Broadcasting Products, Equipment, Devices or Devices" to March 31, 2025.

Purpose of this revision
IFT aims to avoid regulatory disruptions or technical barriers in the industry by adopting best practices for product labeling, while ensuring that there is a way to identify compliant products, such as considering a more flexible approach for small products or products with screens, or considering alternatives such as placing the label in the user manual if the label cannot be displayed on the product or packaging.

Certification process
1. Submit information and samples;
2. After the prediction is qualified, send it to Mexico for local testing;
3. After the sample test is qualified, issue a test report;
4. The qualification certification agency reviews the test report and issues a certificate.
