The second edition of the European Technical Guide for Metals and Alloys in Food Contact Materials EDQM has been released!

On August 1, 2024, the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & Health Care (EDQM) released the second edition of the Technical Guide for Metals and Alloys in Food Contact Materials 2024, replacing the old version CM/Res(2013)9. This guide is a supplement to the European Council Resolution CM/Res(2020)9, which aims to ensure the safety of metal and alloy products in food contact materials (FCM) to protect the health of consumers.

Compared with the previous version, the main changes are as follows:

Update of test conditions

The migration test conditions refer to the JRC Guide "Test conditions for kitchen utensils in contact with food: plastics, metals, silicone rubber and rubber, paper and paperboard" fourth edition 2023 or its amendments.

Delete the section on declaration of conformity in the first edition

In view of the corresponding guidelines set out in Section 8.2 of the Annex to Resolution CM/Res(2020)9, the section on declaration of conformity in the first edition has been deleted in the current version.
